The renown Czech artist Zdeněk Burian is best known internationally for his paintings of dinosaurs, extinct mammals and prehistoric man. Over the last few years we have made available books showcasing his illustration art and now can announce the availability of a third new book showcasing the prehistoric art for which he is so well known.
This 560 page book is the third book of prehistoric paintings and drawings of Zdeněk Burian. The massive 9 1/2” x 13” book reproduces from the original art hundreds of paintings and drawings of prehistoric man.
The book concludes a trilogy dedicated to the paleoart of this prominent Czech painter. It is dedicated to Burian’s famous artistic reconstructions of the species Homo erectus, as well as Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons, including scenes from the life of the legendary mammoth hunters from Dolní Věstonice. In addition the
book also contains a number of illustrations for short stories by Josef Augusta, in which two of Burian’s themes – prehistory and adventure – are best combined. In addition to many never-before-reproduced works, the book also includes a chapter on Burian’s illustrations for fiction books with prehistoric motifs, such as
Obručev’s Plutonia, Doyle’s Lost World and the works of Eduard Štorch.
We have been chosen by the Czech publisher Albatros as their American distributor. The text of all three books are in Czech. You can read a detailed description of the book and Burian’s history of prehistoric art in English here:
